INDIGENOUS TOUR

Date: Monday 2nd July

Time: 1:30 pm and 3 pm

This tour, led by an Indigenous guide, will weave the history of Aboriginal Sydney with the growth and development of the University of Sydney. The tour begins in Victoria Park and ends at the Charles Perkins Centre.

This tour explores how the University grounds were used by Aboriginal people before European settlement, the history of western intellectual engagement with Indigenous people, and the ways several disciplines of the University utilised traditional knowledge in research and teaching. The tour follows the pathways the University has taken towards reconciliation with the first Australians in recent decades.

Beyond the Quadrangle there is also the opportunity to explore an additional two equally fascinating buildings – the late Victorian Neo-Gothic Anderson Stuart Building (the original site of the Medical School), and the modern Sydney Law School which opened in 2009.

They represent important architectural features of campus and illustrate the ways in which the University has responded to changing student needs over time.
